Welcome home to Darien. The youngest municipality in the county at the beginning of the 21st century. Darien exemplifies the explosion of massive suburban development that began after WW2. Darien was first settled by from New England that arrived via the Erie Canal and Great Lakes.  The Andres Neiman family was among the first arrivals. Andres served in several community positions and founded the Andres Inn that served 15 stagecoaches that traveled the line. It also included a post office and tavern. In 1890 the Village of Lace was established. The area known as "The Point" included the Town Hall, Blacksmith, Post Office, General Store, and the office of Dr. Roe. Darien was originally part of the Cass and Lace communities. The communities incorporated into a single city 1969. Darien takes its name from Darien, CT.  "A Nice Place To Live". 


Schooling in Darien has a lot to offer.  All schools are rated well on Niche.com, schools are Mark Delay (PK-2), Lace and Elizabeth Ide Elementary, Eisenhower Junior High,  Hinsdale South (35th Best Public High School in IL) and Downers Grove South (#67 Best High School in IL) High Schools. Bordered by I55 to the south, 83 Kingery Highway to the East and Sawyer Rd inward, 67th and Clarendon Hills Cemetery to the North, Fairview Ave to the West and parts of Lemont Rd further South. Darien sits approximately 20 miles Southwest of The Loop. It is an easy commute to Downtown form it's closest Metra Chicagoland stops in Westmont or Downers Grove. Close to I55 that feeds into Chicago and the Loop. There are two major airports within a half hour drive (O'Hare, Midway) offering non-stop flights to just about anywhere in the world. Along with Uber/Lyft, car service access, and AmTrak you are globally connected for business or personal travel. 


Darien is a predominately residential community, it has a Post Office, Fire and Police Departments, Chambe of Commerce, Community Center, Sportsplex, library, with a well planned mix of commercial and office areas. Oak Brook and Yorktown malls are nearby and provide amazing shopping, eating, and entertainment options. Darien is home to over 480 local businesses too. 


Darien is home to eighteen parks and recreation areas, with approximately 145 acres, and a community center where you can find information on a host of sports and recreational programs. Darien Sports plex also has 3 full size skating and Ice Hockey rinks. There are many gym and work out facilities located in and within minutes of the community. Darien Youth Club also provides information on a variety of youth sports programs.
