Welcome home to Western Springs. The village of Western Springs saw its first cabin and farm built in 1834 by Joseph Vial. The cabin initially served as a stagecoach stop, general store, post office, and hotel for the local area. The first railroad line was built through the area in 1863 and filled in most of the swamp land on the west side.  The first school was built in 1872 and the village started to attract more commuters. A Post Office followed in 1873, fire department 1894, electric plant 1898, telephones, 1899, park district 1923, and a library in 1926. The village incorporated in 1958. Western Springs was recognized in 2007 by Businessweek.com as second out of 50 best places to raise a family based on 5 criteria, school test scores, cost of living, number of schools, crime risk, and village recreational activities. 


Schooling in Western Springs is top notch and you will be hard pressed to find better districts. All schools are rated A and A+ on Niche.com, schools are Forest Hills, Field Park, and John Laidlaw Elementary, McClure Junior High, Lyons Township and Hinsdale Central High Schools. Hinsdale Central (also a blue ribbon school) is ranked in the top 3 High Schools in IL and in the top 75 nation wide. Blue Ribbon schools are recognized by the Department of Education for achieving superior standards of academic excellence. Lyons is A+ rated and ranked in the top 30 of all IL High Schools.


Western Springs primarily encompasses the are between Willow Springs Rd (Gilbert Ave), Ogden Ave, I-294, and West Plainfield Rd. Western Springs sits approximately 17 miles west of Chicago. It is an easy commute to Downtown form it's Metra stop at 914 Burlington Ave. There are two major airports within a half hour drive (O'Hare, Midway) offering non-stop flights to just about anywhere in the world. Along with Uber/Lyft, car service access, and AmTrak you are globally connected for business or personal travel.


Western Springs has a thriving downtown area. There is a Library, Post Office, Fire and Police Station, community pool,  and City Govt offices. Western Springs is also home to Theatre of Western Springs. They put on many wonderful performances and teach work shops. DT also hosts entertainment (Concerts in the Park, Movies in the Park, National Night Out, Archery, French Market), fairs, as well as many other events (seasonally permitting). Its also host to many locally owned business and eateries in an upscale suburban setting including Casey's Market and Kirschbaum's Bakery.


Western Springs is home to thirteen parks, with approximately 90 acres, and a recreation center where you can find information on a host of sports and recreational programs. Western Springs is home to LFC Tigers Football and Cheer Club and is the home of the WS Little league Yankees. There are many gym and work out facilities located in and within minutes of the community.
